Does anyone have any good ideas to get a good clean bass kick sound in a recording without a bass (large diaphram) mic? If anyone has any creative ideas I'd love to hear them. I am recording on a Yamaha AW16G Workstation, has lots of eq, dynamics, effects, but nothing seems to sound right. If not anyone have a loaner mic, or trade for tattoo work???

What mics do you have available to you right now? Have you tried setting up a "doghouse" with a moving blanket and a chair? I've gotten away with using a SM58 about 15" away from the face of the bass drum pointed at the "hole" cut into the skin of it. It's not optimal, but it works in a pinch. You'll need to eq and compress as well. Hope this helps.

I was on hold to Yamaha a while back and the advert on the wait described a bass mic that used a speaker with an impedance matching network. It sounded like about a 6" speaker. As 6" speakers are cheap, it sounded like an easy experiment. Different stiffness of suspensions would change the voice of the bass. Try a 270 ohm in parallel with the speaker and then a 2.2K ohm in series to the input of a preamp. These are the same values Fender uses to convert their speaker levels to line recording. Happy hunting.
