The U.S. Copyright Office has a new way to register copyrights electronically online. Here is a link to the new eCO page. This is basically taking the place of the old paper forms PA an SR, although they can still be used and mailed in. (or you can mail in a CO form like you could do with the PA and SR forms). It's also less expensive at $35 rather then $45 for the mail-in form method and you can use your credit or debit card to pay online. The page is here: www.copyright.gov/register/performing.htmlJust a tip about doing it this way - The government computer system will time out after 1/2 hour of uploading time. If you are still running on a modem you will only get 2 or 3 songs uploaded before it kicks you off. Then it's a hassle to get started back up. If doing multiple songs rip your songs down to .mp3's and burn them on a disc or thumb drive, and take them somewhere where you can get on a high speed system like a friends house or the library. It will take moments to upload. BRC

Just like the send in stuff that way. You can do a single song or a whole disc of songs for the same price. Most modern songwriters normally wait until their album is done and ready for duplication or master before Registering the Copyright on the disc. That way any revisions made late in the process on any particular song are included. Remember, you own the copyright the moment you put it down on paper or record it. You are registering your ownership of the Copyright with the feds when you "Copyright".

That's awesome, too bad our recording seems to be a never ending process. Hopefully we'll feel like we are done soon so that we can copyright. Thanks for the info!
