Central Oregon Songwriters Association is really starting to kick ass. The membership has grown substantially over the last couple of years and the meetings are pretty cool. It's not your daddy's COSA anymore. With the show at the Tower theater where you can play your original songs for a packed house it's pretty awesome. The meetings have sections that are like songwriting classes and I know I learn stuff. Pretty cool indeed............

So at yesterday's meeting the following items were discussed:
1) Changing the meeting locations to somewhere in Bend?
2) Altering the "Song of the Month" to concentrate more on feedback and less on the competitive approach.
3) Open Mics.
Discuss... I'll send out an email on this issue later.

Right now the meeting is being moved from Redmond to Bend for next month so they don't know the location yet but the group meets the last Sunday of every month at 2:00 in the afternoon. I'll post up here when I find out where the new place is. The meetings are very cool and if you are a local singer/songwriter you should definitely check it out. They do have a page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000218163932or www.oregonsongwriters.org/

Wow, the new COSA administration is already pulling the plug on meetings in Redmond. I think this is a good move. Bend is the hub of central Oregon and if we are going to make our meetings most accessible to the general populace, then meetings should be in Bend. I look forward to see where the new venue will be.

Thank you for your comments about moving the meetings to Bend! I agree. Although, I think there will be some general hemming and hawing from the rest of the members. Like any changes... it will take some time to get used to it. Hopefully, six months down the line the average member won't even remember that we used to have meetings in Redmond!

COSA MEETING SUNDAY 2:00 PM WHERE: DUDLEY'S BOOKSTORE 2ND FLOOR MEETING ROOM 135 NW Minnesota Avenue, Bend, OR 97701 maps.google.com/maps?q=dudley%27s%20bookshop%20cafe&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl COSA WEBSITE: oregonsongwriters.org/ PLEASE NOTE OUR NEW MEETING LOCATION AT DUDLEY'S BOOKSTORE IN BEND, OREGON!!! 2:00 PM SUNDAY. Goal - The next 11 months of COSA meetings will be focused on providing YOU (the songwriter) with tools you can use for songwriting. Sounds simple... doesn't it? New, potential and returning members please join us on Sunday 2:00 PM for the start of a creative and fruitful year in songwriting. You owe it to yourself to spend one Sunday a month with other creative songwriters as we jointly struggle towards a greater understanding of our art! PLEASE NOTE OUR NEW MEETING LOCATION AT DUDLEY'S BOOKSTORE IN BEND, OREGON!!! 2:00 PM SUNDAY. 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - This section of each meeting will be set aside to workshop new songs. I urge you to write a new song each month and bring it in for work-shopping. Show us your new baby. Please print out at least ten lead sheets so we can comment and follow along with your song. Lead Sheet = lyrics & chords. I guarantee that if you follow this program and have the discipline to write a new song for each month's meeting... that your songwriting will improve over the next year. This section of the meeting will last as long as it takes to get all the songs work-shopped. Please be on time as we need your collective energy for yours and other members songs. 3:00 PMish - 4:00 PM - Guest speaker Mark Quon! Mark will be helping me with the workshop process. You will hear his invaluable songwriting ideas throughout the workshop, but after we finish the workshop... Mark will provide some further insights into his songwriting style. Hopefully, he'll play us a few of his songs too! 4:00 PM - Song of the Month Contest This is the opportunity for you to take your finished song out for a spin. Bring a CD or play your song live. You must be a COSA member to take part in the Song of the Month Contest. Join!!! For greatest feedback success, I recommend a lyric or lead sheet for Song of the Month entrants.

Did anyone go to that that was a first-timer? If so, I'm interested in your take on it. I was interested but busy, and would like to make the next one, just wanted some reviews of the meeting if possible.

Attention all Central Oregon Songwriters...
The Central Oregon Songwriters Association will be hosting an open mic this Tuesday from 6:30 - 9:00 PM at Silver Moon... on Greenwood!
We have some acts already scheduled, but the remaining slots are first come, first served. You may get one song, or you may get three, but either way... bring that song that you've been dying to play out. COSA will be sponsoring various open mics throughout the year as we continue to support Central Oregon songwriters. Come play us your song, or network with other songwriters, or... just stop by to hear some cool tunes.
Please join us Tuesday from 6:30 - 9:00 PM at Silver Moon.
You may reply to this ad for further information... thank you!

socalmicskills... the first meeting went pretty well, but we had to move the location at the last minute due to SummerFest... Next meeting is Sunday 7/25 2:00 PM at Dudleys. The first section of the meeting is a workshop, so bring something you're working on and 10-12 lyric sheets that we can mark up and give back to you.... hope to see you soon!

Socalmicskills... most people in the group bring a guitar and play us their in progress song... with lyric sheets provided; however, if you make music electronically or via some other method and wish to bring in a CD of your work in progress... we have a CD player at the meetings. COSA meetings are used as a tool for songwriters to get some feedback on current projects... before you share your work with an audience. Hope you can make the next meeting... Yesterday's meeting was fantastic!
